Arabic Facts

Arabic is the official language of many countries, including Algeria, Bahrain, Chad, Dijibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen

These days Arabic provides us with a great example of 'diglossia' - the normal use of two separate varieties of the same language. Most educated Arabs are able to speak both their regional dialect and their school-taught literary Arabic

Nouns in literary Arabic have three cases, roughly corresponding to nominative, accusative and genitive; two genders (masculine and feminine); three numbers (singular, dual and plural) and three 'states' (indefinite, definite and construct)

Nottingham

A city in the East Midlands, Nottingham is one of the UK's core cities and has a population of around 275,000. Home to the legend of Robin Hood, Nottingham gained much of its prosperity in ages past from the textile industry - most famously for its production of lace. Many large companies have their headquarters in Nottingham, owing to its central location in the UK and its transport. Also famed for its shopping districts, sizeable event and sporting venues, as well as its two universities, Nottingham is increasingly becoming a major centre for tourism, particularly from the US and the Far East.
