Arabic Facts

Arabic has played a similar role in the Islamic world as Latin has done for the Romance languages of Europe: many words have been lent to others, including languages such as Kurdish, Persian, Swahili, Urdu and Hindi

The largest living member of the Semitic language family when it comes to speakers, Arabic is classified as a macrolanguage, with 27 sub-languages

The Arab world has several Arabic language academies, whose task it is to preserve and regulate the language. There are academies situated in Egypt, Syria, Morocco and Jordan
