Czech Facts

Czech is closely related to Slovak, Polish and Sorbian

Some words in Czech appear not to have any vowels, such as 'zmrzl' ('frozen solid'), resulting in some teething problems for native speakers of other languages wishing to learn

There are three distinct dialects in the Czech Republic - Common Czech, Moravian Czech and Silesian Czech. All are grammatically similar, but have different nouns and pronunciation

Leeds

A major city in West Yorkshire, Leeds is located on the River Aire and has a population of around 450,000. The third largest city in the UK, Leeds was an agricultural market town during the Middle Ages, growing to a merchant town mainly involved in textiles by the Tudor period. The industrial revolution led to an even more pronounced growth, until Leeds was responsible for making machinery for spinning, machine tools, and steam engines as well as other industries based on coal, textiles, chemicals, leather and pottery. Today Leeds is the largest financial centre outside London, with prevalent railway links to the rest of the country, and a quarter of the workforce are involved in financial and business services.
