English Facts
English is a pluricentric language, having no international academy or central language authority to govern it. No dialect is considered standard, though culturally in the UK there are accents considered more formal than others
The main influences in English vocabulary are from Latin and Ancient Greek, French, and the languages of invading Germanic tribes and predecessors of modern English. Many sets of statistics have been published on this subject, though none is considered definitive
Fast on its way to becoming the world's first universal language, English is spoken by over 380 million people worldwide as a first language, around 600 million as a second language, and has over 1 billion people considered 'learners'

When I was fifteen I went on holiday to France with my family. We went to a town called Agen in the south. It was a beautiful place. We stayed in a farmhouse which was situated about two miles outside of the town. I used to spend most of the day in the garden sunbathing. Also, our house was near a farm so there were a lot of animals close by.
On one occasion, the farmer from next door asked me if I wanted to take his horse for a ride. I said ?of course?. He was a fine-looking horse; whiter than snow and much taller than me. I spent many enjoyable days exploring the local countryside and the local wildlife of the area on horseback.
In total we spent one month in France and I was sad when I had to leave. Although I knew that I had to return home to Scotland, I sometimes wish that I could have stayed. I would very much like to return there one day and see how things have changed.
I will try to get my family to return there this summer; however, even if they do not, I will go back with my friends. It is surprising how cheap things are in Agen so I would not need that much money.
I will start asking my friends if they have any plans for the summer holidays ? and if not, we can start planning our trip to France.

Coventry
Coventry is a city in the West Midlands of the UK, with a population of over 300,000 - the second largest city in the Midlands by population after Birmingham. Famed for its modern cathedral, which was built after the old cathedral was destroyed by bombing raids during the Second World War, Coventry has developed a reputation as Europe's centre of peace and resolution, playing host to an annual Peace Month. Historically, Coventry has been known for the quality of the cloth produced in the region, as well as a major centre for the manufacture of bicycles, and later, a major contributor to the success of the British motor industry.
