English Facts

There are many differences between the English spoken in the UK and that of the USA. Not only are there several differences in spelling, but there are also words that are pronounced differently

English is sometimes described as the world's 'lingua franca': it is the dominant language in communications, science, business, aviation, entertainment, diplomacy, and is the native language of the internet

English is a pluricentric language, having no international academy or central language authority to govern it. No dialect is considered standard, though culturally in the UK there are accents considered more formal than others

English 1 to 1 Business

These English lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn English to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette; and once you have become more proficient then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with import/export, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations, and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even on our most rudimentary beginners course, students can expect to finish the course with decent telephone and e-mail English, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country.

English 1 to 1 General

English courses of this type are broader and are aimed towards students with a variety of requirements. While all beginner level students will cover survival English - needed for short visits to countries where English isn't widely spoken, or if you wish to 'go local'; those studying English usually go in different directions at this point, depending on what they need. Those who have benefitted from these English classes have been those investing in or buying property overseas, those married to overseas nationals, people setting off on a round-the-world trip, enthusiasts in English culture, and those enthusiastic to pass a specific exam in English.

Wakefield

A city in West Yorkshire, Wakefield has a population of around 80,000. As a centre for cloth dealing during the medieval period, the city matured as a stalwart of glass production. Nowadays it is distinctive for its prisons, the National Coal Mining Museum for England, and its relatively large proportion of council housing. It's not all doom and gloom, though - the city plays host to many pub crawls due to large amounts of pubs in certain areas of the city; as well as an annual Rhubarb Festival!
