For busy individuals, we offer very flexible options for timetabling. Course books are provided for all of our course options, which are outlined below:
Our general Finnish language courses are suitable for learners of any level. They aim to enable communication in everyday situations and are an ideal way to improve your knowledge of Finnish, whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned speaker. A general course focuses predominantly on grammar and vocabulary, supported by development of speaking, reading, and listening skills. General courses are ideal if you want to attain or improve on an all-round level of Finnish, or build a strong foundation before moving on to business Finnish training.
Our Finnish group courses are targeted for sets of 2-12 people, all of whom have the same requirements from learning Finnish. Everybody should be at about the same level at the start of the course, and the entire group should be able to meet at the same time and place each week. Grammar and vocabulary form the backbone of the general course, helping the student gain fluency in conversational topics whilst increasing their overall working Finnish knowledge. For groups who wish to engage in further Finnish study, the general course is an excellent starting point.
Our one-to-one business Finnish courses are intended for those learners who already have a basic grounding in Finnish, but need to develop specific language skills to aid effective business communication. These courses can be tailored to address the requirements of your particular field, and can include development of any necessary skills, such as public speaking or professional correspondence. Business Finnish courses are a perfect option for people working in import/export, international negotiations and acquisitions, and multinational companies where some knowledge of Finnish is required. They are also ideal for jobseekers, people transferring to a foreign country, and those working with international colleagues, academia and government.
Intended for learners who already have a basic grasp of Finnish and wish to extend it to apply to their working lives, group business Finnish courses are a great way to enable employees within a multinational corporation to be productive in both their native tongue and their newly-acquired Finnish. Group courses cater for up to 12 people (minimum of 2 students), and should be scheduled to take place at the same time and location each week. The tutor will develop the group's vocabulary to suit the related industry, as well as improve competence for day to day tasks performed in Finnish.
Specific purpose courses in Finnish are aimed at those who already have semi-proficient skills in Finnish but wish to improve in particular areas of expertise. Your teacher can guide you through many features of Finnish to help you gain fluency, linguistic or not. These may include:
• Accent softening / pronunciation
Developing existing aptitude for writing, reading, listening, speaking, etc.
• Language for international travel Business communication skills (e.g. training, negotiation, telephony, presentation)
• Business writing skills (e.g. proposals, reports, formal correspondence)
• Vocabulary for particular industry (e.g. medical, legal, HR, engineering, accounting)
• Understanding historical and cultural context
As long as all members of a group Finnish course are at a similar level of expertise, specific purpose Finnish courses can be customised to suit the needs of the group of 2-12 students with similar learning aims. These often include:
Vocabulary related to the industry (legal, HR, engineering, accounting, medical etc.)
• Accent softening and elocution
• Expanding upon existing aspects (writing, speaking, listening, reading etc.)
