French, one of the most spoken languages in the world, is not only an official language in 29 countries (like France, Canada and the Democratic Republic of the Congo) but also of many international organisations, including the UN, the European Union and Interpol. With French being spoken in so many countries and industries, proficiency in the language is an asset when it comes to corporate and professional success on an international scale. Contact us at Listen & Learn today and we will design a personalised programme for you to attain your language goals, whatever they may be, in a short time. You’ll find that the ability to speak both French and English is a major advantage for job seekers, especially when applying for roles within the multinational companies based in Reading that use French as their working language, like Zerto, IN2 or Pareto.
And French will also be useful when socialising locally, as more than 2,000 people living in Reading claim they are fluent in the language. So, you’ll always find opportunities to put your new skills to use. For example, you can join a language exchange group, such as the Reading French Language Meetup. They have weekly gatherings that welcome anyone interested in having a good time while speaking in French, regardless of their level or age.
Whatever of your language goals, contact us at Listen & Learn today and get started with a customised French course! Our native-speaking instructors will tailor every lesson to your preferences and requirements. Soon, you’ll be able to read French newspapers covering financial and economic news, like La Tribune, in their original language!
These French lessons are more general in nature and are targeted at students who have a whole range of different needs. While all beginners level students can expect to cover Survival French—required for short visits to a country where English may not be spoken and/or the intention is to make good contacts with the local population—students then generally progress in different directions depending on their needs. Typical students include those buying property overseas, spouses of overseas nationals, people about to set off on that long-awaited world trip, French-culture enthusiasts and those who are keen to pass a particular French examination. These French lessons are driven towards people who have a requirement to learn French to bolster their work output. For novices, you will find it useful to learn basic greetings and business etiquette. Once you have become more proficient, then reading and writing will come to the fore. Typical students include those concerned with imports and exports, those seeking work in multinational companies, international negotiations and anyone working with international colleagues or administration. Even in our most rudimentary lesson for beginnners, students can expect to finish with decent telephone and e-mail French, as well as a good enough grip on the language for a short trip to the country where the language is spoken. Bookings must be made for all students at the same time. Listen & Learn does not advise classes of more than 6-8 people, although In-Company Taster French sessions can be run with as many as 12 people. Games are great instruments to help children acquire a new language while having fun. Luckily, the internet is full of websites that offer language games for free, such as Hello World. This site is full of interactive activities and songs that help kids learn basic French vocabulary, such as the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colours. Most of the games are classical ones, like tic tac toe, listen and match, etc. There is also a section that features expressions, like greetings, thanking others or asking for food, where children can listen to recordings of real conversations and repeat them while completing exercises.

Histoire de Babar is a famous children’s book that tells the story of Babar, a young elephant whose mother is killed by a hunter. The baby escapes and visits different places looking for a new home. So, your kid will learn vocabulary related to the different places and people Babar visits, like the jungle (arbre: tree, feauille: leaf), the city (rue: street, bâtiment: building) and other families (mère: mother, père: father, fils: son, fille: daughter)!

Rolie Polie Olie is a Canadian television series produced by the Disney Channel that follows the adventures of Olie, a little robot and his friends on the moon. The robot is composed of several geometric shapes, so it's a great opportunity for your children to learn new words, such as circle (cercle), sphere (sphère) or square (carré). Also, it is spoken using the Canadian accent, so the series is also helpful to become acquainted with French Canadian.

My Listen & Learn tutor, Yann, made a huge effort to help me understand how the grammar works, and how to say things properly – these aren’t things you can learn from a book
