L'11 dicembre 1946 l'Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite dava vita all'UNICEF ,il Fondo Internazionale di Emergenza delle Nazioni Unite per l'Infanzia, con lo scopo di aiutare i bambini europei nell'immediato dopoguerra. Solo più tardi, pur mantenendo il suo acronimo originario, l'UNICEF divenne semplicemente Fondo delle Nazioni Unite per l'Infanzia.
Più di 31 milioni di bambini nacquero tra le rovine della seconda guerra mondiale quando tutto ciò che poteva servire loro per sopravvivere e crescere - latte, cibo, medicine, coperte, biancheria, scarpe e in molti casi anche un tetto - era così scarso e costoso che solo poche madri fortunate erano in grado di provvedervi.
L'americano Maurice Pate, primo direttore generale, stabilì una precisa condizione: l'organizzazione avrebbe dovuto impegnarsi a sostenere tutti i bambini, sia dei paesi vinti sia di quelli vincitori, senza alcuna discriminazione di carattere politico.
Il primo paese beneficiario dell’ UNICEF fu la Polonia a seguire ci furono la Jugoslavia, l'Italia, la Germania, l'Austria, la Francia e la Grecia.
Con la graduale ripresa dell'economia dei paesi europei, le attività del Fondo vennero rivolte ai bambini dei paesi in via di sviluppo in Africa, Asia e America Latina e nel 1953 le Nazioni Unite decisero di prorogare indefinitamente il mandato dell'UNICEF. Questa organizzazione è oggi presente con proprio personale in 162 paesi e territori del mondo.Nel 1965 l'UNICEF ricevette il Premio Nobel per la Pace.

For starters, learning salutations and business etiquette is integral; once these have been practiced then reading and writing courses can start. Typical studiers have been those involved in international import/export, negotiations and acquisitions, those in multinational companies requiring another language, and those working in any way with international governments and relevant administration. Just our simplest course for beginners will have students finishing the lessons with basic telephone and e-mail Italian, as well as survival Italian should a visit to the country be necessary.

These Italian lessons fit a broader spectrum, and can be useful for those who need different things from the language. Most beginner students will have a handle of survival Italian by the end of their course, which will provide them without enough Italian to communicate at least at a basic level during short trips to the country, but those who require more would benefit greatly from these sessions. Typical students have been those eager to travel all over the world, those buying overseas property, those with foreign spouses, aficionados of Italian culture and those who just wish to pass a particular Italian exam.

If there are 2 or more of you with the same level of Italian, the same targets within the language, and be able to study at the same time and location, then you'll be happy to know that these Italian courses can also be made available for Two-to-One Italian Courses or Small Group In-Company Italian Courses. Listen & Learn do not generally recommend classes of more than 6-8 people, although Taster courses in Italian can run with up to 12 people. Bookings must be made for all participants at the same time.

Exeter
A sizeable city found in the county town of Devon, Exeter is situated on the River Exe and has a population of around 115,000. Originally Exeter developed as an administrative centre and a port city, as it was founded on the lowest bridging point of the River Exe. Much of the city centre was decimated by the German Luftwaffe in the Second World War, prompting major reconstruction in the 1950s, replacing many historic buildings. As such, while Exeter was previously regarded as second only to Bath for architectural study, Exeter is not dominated by its tourist trade.
