Portuguese Facts
Portuguese has over 210 million native speakers worldwide, making it the world's seventh most popular language
Spanish is the most similar major world language to Portuguese, but there are major differences between the two, such as having very different words for common words, different spellings for similar sounds, consistently different word endings, and rules involving whether to use the definite article ('the') or not
The Portuguese-Japanese 'Nippo Jisho' of 1603 was the first dictionary of Japanese in a European language, which was a product of Jesuit missionaries in Japan

Book now / EnquiryThese courses in Portuguese are meant for those that feel that learning Portuguese would make a change in their work. For starters, it is expedient to learn how to say hello/goodbye, as well as basic business protocol; once the basics have been mastered, reading and writing come to the fore. Students who have greatly benefitted have been involved in import/export, international negotiations and acquisitions, jobseekers in multinational companies where another language is required, and those working in the international academia and government circuits. Even on our most fundamental beginner's course, students can anticipate ending the course with basic telephone Portuguese and e-mail Portuguese skills for communicating, as well as survival Portuguese if a short visit to the country is needed.
Book now / EnquiryPortuguese courses of this type are broader and are aimed towards students with a variety of requirements. While all beginner level students will cover survival Portuguese - needed for short visits to countries where English isn't widely spoken, or if you wish to 'go local'; those studying Portuguese usually go in different directions at this point, depending on what they need. Those who have benefitted from these Portuguese classes have been those investing in or buying property overseas, those married to overseas nationals, people setting off on a round-the-world trip, enthusiasts in Portuguese culture, and those enthusiastic to pass a specific exam in Portuguese.
Book now / EnquiryThe Portuguese courses are also available for 2 or more people studying together (Two-to-One Portuguese Course or Small Group In-Company Portuguese Course). All participants must have the same level, the same business or general language needs and be able to study at the same time in the same location. Listen & Learn do not recommend group classes of more than 6-8 people although In-Company Taster Portuguese Courses can be run with up to 12 people.

Wigan
A town in Greater Manchester, in northwest England, Wigan has a population of around 85,000. It was formerly an industrial hub for textile manufacture, but the last mill closed in 1980. The town remains a centre of popular music for youths, with many alternative pubs and clubs to be found in the town centre, all eager to promote and host local musicians and bands. Currently in the middle of a large "regeneration" project, Wigan is undergoing many changes to give it increased commercialism and tourism.
