\"misquotemovie\"<\/a>Most of us have tried our hand at karaoke before, and been surprised that the words we usually sing in the shower are quite different from the actual lyrics on the screen \u2013 well, misquoted lines from movies are common place too, and frankly, my dear, yes I do give a damn!<\/p>\n

In a recent blog, we looked at some of the best closing lines<\/a> in cinematic history. This time around, we\u2019re looking at some of the biggest crimes against movie-going folklore \u2013 and the worst thing is, we\u2019re all guilty!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cFrankly, my dear, I don\u2019t give a damn.\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Yes, the line made famous by the dashing Clark Gable in the American Civil War classic, Gone With The Wind, isn\u2019t the oft misquoted, \u201cFrankly, Scarlett, I don\u2019t give a damn.\u201d <\/i>It\u2019s also not the much-touted final line from the film \u2013 Scarlett, being a good woman, gets the last word in with, \u201cAfter all, tomorrow is another day!\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\"You played it for her, you can play it for me. If she can stand it, I can. Play it!\"<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

While we\u2019re on the classics, Humphrey Bogart didn\u2019t say, \u201cPlay it again, Sam\u201d<\/i> in Casablanca. He actually said,\u00a0\"You played it for her, you can play it for me. If she can stand it, I can. Play it!\"<\/i> But this misquoted quote from the 1942 film has long stood the test of time and will continue to do so, as will the following:<\/p>\n

\"Me Tarzan, you Jane!\"<\/i> is actually\u00a0\"Jane. Tarzan. Jane. Tarzan.\"<\/i> (Tarzan The Ape Man, 1932)<\/p>\n

\"You dirty rat!\"<\/i> is actually\u00a0\"Mmm, that dirty, double-crossin' rat!\" <\/i>(Larceny Lane, 1931)<\/p>\n

\"Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?\"<\/i> is actually\u00a0\"Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?\"<\/i> (Snow White and The Seven Dwarves, 1937)<\/p>\n

\"misquotemovie2\"<\/a>\u201cToto, I don\u2019t think we\u2019re in Kansas anymore!\u201d<\/i> is actually\u00a0\u201cToto, I\u2019ve a feeling we\u2019re not in Kansas anymore!\u201d<\/i> (The Wizard of Oz, 1939)<\/p>\n

And, who hasn\u2019t done a bad Clint Eastwood impression and said, \"Do you feel lucky, punk?\"<\/i> when the actual line is \"You've got to ask yourself one question; 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?\"<\/i><\/p>\n

\"No. I am your father.\"<\/i><\/b> <\/b><\/p>\n

More recently, Star Wars aficionados around the world will resort to violence when they hear common folk blurt out, \"Luke, I am your father\"<\/i> because Darth Vader actually first broaches his relationship with his estranged son, Luke Skywalker, with the not-so-memorable line, \"No. I am your father\"<\/i> before he tries to kill him in The Empire Strikes Back!<\/p>\n

Sticking with geekdom, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but no one on the Starship Enterprise originally said \"Beam me up Scotty\"<\/i>. It was actually\u00a0\"Scotty, beam me up.\"<\/i><\/p>\n

While we\u2019re on the subject of space, Tom Hanks didn\u2019t say\u00a0\u201cHouston, we have a problem\u201d<\/i> in Apollo 13, he actually said \u201cAh, Houston, we\u2019ve had a problem\u201d<\/i>, but I guess it\u2019s just semantics when you\u2019re a billion feet in the air in a tin can that\u2019s falling apart!<\/p>\n

And guess what, Dracula never said \"I want to suck your blood\"<\/i> either, but why let the truth get in the way of a good quote? Talking of the truth, \"You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!\"<\/i> as attributed to the great Jack Nicholson in 1992\u2019s A Few Good Men, is actually scripted as: Tom Cruise: \"I want the truth!\"<\/i> Nicholson: \"You can't handle the truth!\"<\/i><\/p>\n
