But seriously, if you have children, you can\u2019t beat Italy for things to do, people to meet, sights to see, and of course, it\u2019s foodie heaven for kids of all ages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There\u2019s a lot to learn when living in Italy - like the language for starters - but one thing we do know is that it has a large Catholic population and is very family orientated, as such, it is almost tailor made for children \u2013 especially when it comes to eating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In some countries it is frowned upon to take children to restaurants and cafes, but in Italy, it\u2019s part of <i>La<\/i> <i>Dolce Vita<\/i>, and it\u2019s perfectly normal to see children of all ages at food establishments all over the country, and at all hours of the day and night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">So, whether you\u2019re cooking at home, or out for breakfast\/lunch\/dinner, here are our top picks for the kids to tuck in to \u2013 and the grown-ups will enjoy them too!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Antipasto<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><\/b>To kick things off, you can\u2019t go wrong with an antipasto platter \u2013 a traditional selection of salami, prosciutto, parma ham, olives, pickled vegetables, and cheeses \u2013 which is the perfect way to start a meal, or can be a meal in itself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Parmigiana<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><\/b>If your progeny is of a vegetarian bent, they\u2019ll be spoilt for choice, especially with aubergine parmigiana a gooey, cheesy, tomatoey, taste sensation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Caprese Salad<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><\/b>Talking of vegetables, if you think your little darlings aren\u2019t getting their 5+ a day, this tomato, mozzarella, and basil salad is an enjoyable way to boost their vitamin C intake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Pizza<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b><\/b>Do we need to say more? Warm from the oven, thin doughy crust, fresh toppings, the Italians make pizza the way it\u2019s supposed to be made, after all, they were the ones that invented it! And, did we mention, it\u2019s cheap \u2013 super cheap.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.listenandlearn.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/italiankidseats.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1724 alignright\" alt=\"italiankidseats\" src=\"http:\/\/www.listenandlearn.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/italiankidseats.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/b><b>Calzone<\/b><\/p>\n<p>To mix things up a bit, a calzone is a folded over pizza with fillings galore \u2013 traditionally tomato, mozzarella and sauce, but there are all sorts of trendy variations available now.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pasta<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>Like we said, Italy is foodie heaven for everyone, and no matter what your children\u2019s preferences, there\u2019s a type of pasta and type of sauce and type of cooking style to suit even the most discerning of tastes \u2013 like the crowd pleasing spaghetti bolognese, the tried and tested lasagne, and the never-fails-linguine-carbonara.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tiramisu<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>Italy is all about the sweet life (<i>La Dolce Vita<\/i>), and this is no less true when it comes to dessert. Your kids will love this popular local pud, but won\u2019t believe you when you tell them it\u2019s made with cheese!<\/p>\n<p><b>Cannoli<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>These Sicilian pastries are enjoyed by all Italians, and are often depicted in movies as favourites of \u2018The Mob\u2019, but don\u2019t let that put you off! The tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough are filled with a sweet, creamy filling, and the only bad thing about them is knowing when to stop eating them.<\/p>\n<p><b>Gelato<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>Ice cream is another Italian invention \u2013 so you\u2019ll be in the right country for ice creams at the beach, and it\u2019ll be the right climate for it too!<\/p>\n<p><b>Biscotti<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>Literally meaning twice cooked biscuits, these are found in every <i>nonna\u2019s<\/i> kitchen for when the grandkids visit \u2013 they\u2019re great for dunking in your espresso too!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">This is just the tip of the iceberg of fabulous child-friendly foods in Italy, as over time your kids will develop a palette for more adventurous examples of the Italian cuisine.
