A TV at Last<\/strong><\/p>\n

After months of travelling without seeing the TV I finally got one in my hotel room in La Paz. I decided to watch some news to learn Spanish<\/a> words such as \u201cglobal financial disaster\u201d and \u201cScotland lose again at football or any other sport imaginable\u201d. I couldn\u2019t get the blasted thing to work so I went down to reception and asked him how exactly South American tellys were switched on. Was it maybe something you had to do backwards south of the Equator? The chap very kindly took the large plug shaped object off the otherwise empty table and placed it in the gaping plug shaped space on the wall. <\/p>\n

Finally Some Luxury<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have to confess that I had a night of wanton luxury in Riobamba, Ecuador. I was travelling with the Brits with whom I had gone to learn Spanish<\/a> and then work in the jungle. Fed up of mosquito bites, hammocks and rice a few of us decided to splash out on the best hotel in town. I can still remember the price; $12. I had the best sleep ever, enjoyed an indoor shower and even watched a bit of telly. The skinflints who didn\u2019t want to shell out a measly $12 went to the local fleapit and passed a horrendous night in a tiny bed. Hah! You\u2019ll never catch me doing that.<\/p>\n
