3 Things the Spanish Language Taught Me (Part I)

When you learn a new skill you tend to wonder at some point why on Earth you spent so long on it, don’t you? Personally I have never had to use the woodworking skills I picked up in school and no one will ever give me back those countless hours I wasted wielding a plane and a chisel. Anyway, this rule doesn’t seem to apply when you learn Spanish.

The reason I say this is because I have not once had to stop and wonder what the language has taught me or how it has improved my life. Ah well, I guess now is as good a time to start as any.

How to Be a Child Again

I need to make a confession now. I used to work in a bank. I know it’s horrible but I am almost over it now. I was pretty good at my job but I was bored. There comes a stage in everyone’s life when they need something fresh and exciting. In my case it was coming to South America and taking Spanish classes which broke me out of my routine and make me see the world as somewhere thrilling again. I am being completely serious when I say that I would tell anyone who is bored at work that they should do the same. When you learn a foreign tongue you become a helpless child again and this can only be a good thing.
