It’s Not What You Think It Is (Part I)

One of the most exciting things about going to South America to learn Spanish is that you come across weird and wonderful words and expressions which you probably have never bumped into before. An interesting game to play is to try and work out what something is when you hear the word but don’t know what it is yet. I almost always get it wrong but it doesn’t stop me trying again in the future.

A Choripan

When someone asked me if I wanted one of these things it was a word I hadn’t learned in my Spanish classes and which meant nothing to me. Because of the context I knew that it was something to eat or drink but I reckoned that it was probably a soup, hopefully with a goat’s head or cow’s tail in it. Sadly it turned out to be a spicy sausage (chorizo) in some bread (pan). I say sadly but it was so tasty that I then developed an addiction to the things for a good few months.
