Why Learning a Language Is Like Riding a Bike (Part I)

If you are thinking of learning a second language but aren’t sure whether it is going to be too difficult for you then you might want to compare it to something you have done in the past; like learning to ride a bike maybe. It turns out that these two tasks have more in common than you might think.

It Looks Impossible At First

I remember when my Dad first took me down to the local football pitch with my new bike. Actually, it was my sister’s old bike which she had inherited from a cousin but I didn’t mind the pink colour or the girly design. I was too worried about trying to ride the blooming thing to think about things like that. I then felt the same sort of irrational fear the first time I picked up a Spanish text book. If they are going to learn Spanish London students would do well to remember how they have managed to learn other difficult things like this in their lives. It really isn’t as difficult as it looks and after a while you will wonder why you even thought that it was.
